2003 Mazdaspeed Protegé
The 2003 Mazdaspeed Protegé is the first vehicle sold in the United States to wear the Mazdaspeed name. The history of the Mazdaspeed name dates back to 1967 as "Mazda Sports Corner," where Mazda participated in its first race, the 84-Hour Marathon de la Route on the famous Nurburgring in Germany. The name was changed to Mazdaspeed in 1984. In 1991, Mazdaspeed celebrated their biggest victory - the overall win of the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans, the first and only win for a Japanese manufacturer and the only win for the venerable rotary engine.
A gathering of some of the most famous names in performance tuning has been assembled - Callaway, Garrett, Racing Beat, Tokico, Racing Hart... The result is a perfectly balanced corner-carving speed demon. Add to this a 7-speaker 450-watt Kenwood sound system and interior enhancements from Sparco. Available in Spicy Orange or Black, production is limited to just 2,000 units.
Mazda displayed a black Mazdaspeed Protegé at the annual Sevenstock rotary event at Mazda Research and Development Center in Irvine on 9/27/02. The CaliProtegéMeet exclusive pictures are seen in the bar on the left. The specifications and features of the 2003 Mazdaspeed Protegé are listed below.
